To effectively run a business and to be eligible to bid on lucrative government contracts a company should, at a minimum, be ISO 9001 certified. Being ISO 9001 certified means your company can produce products and service with a credible and consistent level of quality.
A company may need other certifications, such as AS9100 or CMMI, depending on what branch of the Government you are pursuing. Proposal evaluations often award points for each ISO standard implemented, for AS9100, and if your company has achieved a CMMI Maturity Level appraisal certification (2 or higher) there may be additional points added to your overall proposal score.
